Tipperary pair to be first tandem to complete Race Around Ireland

The Tipperary Tandem pair of Peter Ryan and Sean Hahessy are on the home stretch.

They’re aiming to become the first tandem to complete the Race Around Ireland – a 2,150 kilometre ultra-cycling event which is ranked among the toughest endurance events in the world.

Peter, from Drombane and Carrick on Suir man Sean left Meath on Sunday and have been as far north as Malin Head and as far south as Mizen Head on their trek, getting just a couple of hours sleep each day. They are now just 160 km from the finish line ( need to check before 8)

Family and friends turned out to cheer the pair on as they passed through Clonmel and Carrick on Suir yesterday evening.

Speaking to Tipp FM’s Peter’s mum Eileen says she is extremely proud of them.

While Sean’s mother Lillian says Feilim Lynch the team’s chief strategist is ensuring it all runs smoothly
