Sinn Féin Councillors walk out of council meeting

Sinn Fein Councillors staged a walk-out during yesterday’s gathering of the Tipperary County Council.

Councillors had been debating the recent decision to change the electoral boundaries of the county, when Fine Gael Cllr Michael Fitzgerald and Sinn Fein’s David Dunne clashed in a series of heated exchanges.

Cllr Dunne had felt insulted by Cllr Fitzgterald’s comments towards him when the meeting was adjourned for a brief period.

Upon returning to the Chamber, the Tipp/Cashel Cathaoirleach apologised to the Carrick Councillor but an element of his apology angered the Sinn Fein trio, triggering their walk out.

Sinn Fein Party Whip for Tipperary, Martin Browne, felt the apology fell short of the mark.

Cllr David Dunne expressed his disappointment that Cllr Fitzgerald had made politics personal.
