Businesses in Tipperary are being warned of a bogus caller claiming to be from the County Council.

They were trying to sell advertising on a non-existent council Yearbook.

Tipperary County Council is warning businesses to be cautious about anyone offering advertising on behalf of the local authority.

It follows an incident in recent days when a phone call was made to a business in the Clonmel area offering advertising in the Council Yearbook.

However Tipperary County Council has no such Yearbook.

The caller – who used the name Tom – said the cost of the ad was 1,450 Euro. A false email address was also given.

The Council say they will never ring or otherwise contact members of the public or businesses to ask for their Bank or Credit Card details in this way.

If any businesses would like to report receiving such a phone call they can contact the County Council’s Customer Service Desk at 0761 06 5000 between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
