Tipp footballers make history

Liam Kearns side came out on top by a single point in a thrilling game against Derry at Kingspan Breffni Park in Cavan.

The game ebbed and flowed throughout – Tipp were 5 points up with around 10 minutes to go only to 2 points down in time added on having conceded 1-4 without reply.

However late points from Portroe's Kevin O'Halloran – who also got Tipp’s goal – and a brace from Ballyporeens Conor Sweeney saw Tipp edge the win by a single point 1-21 to 2-17

The Premier will now face Galway in the All Ireland quarter final in Croke Park next Sunday….while the hurlers are in the All Ireland semi-finals…..so Tipp now very much a dual county!!

Meanwhile Clare are also through the last 8 of the senior football championship thanks to their 2-12 to 1-9 victory over Roscommon – the Banner will face Kerry in Croke Park.
