A Tipperary Councillor has called for every homeowners to arm themselves in order to protect them from intruders.

Sinn Fein Councillor David Doran made the call in a post on his social media page in reaction to the latest rural burglary in Co Meath, where a man in his 40’s had a noose put around his neck and was taken from room to room as thieves ransacked the house.

Councillor David Doran says that every household should have a legally held firearm and be ready to use it.

Speaking on Tipp FM, Councillor David Doran says it is unfortunate that we have come to the stage that people need to consider arming themselves but it is something that is necessary.
