Tipperary man sentenced for fatal unprovoked attack..

A 24 year old Toomevara man is this evening beginning a 21 year jail sentence after he was sentenced for 4 unprovoked assaults in the town in February of last year.

Jason Morrissey received 14 years for the manslaughter of James Tynan from Johnstown in Co Kilkenny.

He died after he was assaulted by Morrissey in the early hours of February 19th last as he left a night club on Liberty Square.

The Tynan family read a victim impact statement at his sentencing at Nenagh Circuit court today.

Judge Tom Teehan said it was the most affecting statement he had heard in his career.

He sentenced Morrissey to 21 years in total for the fatal assault on James Tynan as well assaults on 3 other men in the days previous.

One of the victims was a 15 year old boy.

The last 3 years of his sentence were suspended.

Morrissey smirked at the Tynan family as he was led away.
