Threat to decentralised office in Roscrea

Deputy Michael Lowry has expressed serious concern about a recommendation to close the Equality Authority office in Roscrea.

The proposal follows the decision to merge the Human Rights Commission and the Equality Authority as part of a cutback on the number of state agencies.

These recommendations are currently with the Justice Minister with Michael Lowry saying the prospect of this further blow for Roscrea cannot be allowed to proceed.

Around 20 people are employed at the decentralised Equality Authority office in Roscrea; they would be facing huge upheaval for the second time in a short number of years if this closure proceeds.
