Storm causes fallen trees and power outages across Tipperary

Motorists are being urged to take extreme care on the roads this morning, due to very stormy conditions right across Tipperary.

There were gusts of up to 150 kilometres per hour in parts of the country last night, with Met Eireann issuing a Status Red weather warning, which is in place until 3 O' Clock this afternoon.

There are fallen trees and debris on roads right across the county with council crews working flat out to remove them.

Among the worst affected areas include the Clonmel road out of Cashel (Rosegreen) – it’s blocked due to fallen power lines.

In West Tipp, fire crews have removed some blocked trees on the N 24 near Limerick Junction which blocked Limerick bound traffic for a time early this morning – but the road remains littered with debris.

The Borrisokane to Portumna Road was also closed with diversions through Lorrha – but crews are working to clear that.

There are also hundreds of homes without power nationwide including in Thurles and Roscrea

Meanwhile, Irish Ferries and Stena Line have cancelled some of today's services due to stormy sea conditions.
