Proposals to introduce an outright ban on people “lighting up” in Tipperary playgrounds have been given the thumbs up.

The smoking ban which was introduced in Ireland in 2004 applies to all workplaces, many hospital campus, universities and some sports facilities.

The local authority here now want that extended to outdoor play areas for children and received approval from councillors to press ahead with the ban.

Director of Services Sinead Carr believes it will be self policing.
