Long awaited construction of the new Shannon Bridge Crossing could get underway in 2019.

A broad timescale for the multi million euro project in Ballina-Killaloe was outlined at a special joint meeting of the Nenagh and Killaloe Municipal Districts in the historic twin towns yesterday.

Clrs from East Clare and North Tipp were told that discussions with landowners are ongoing, a detailed design phase will take place next year with the development going to tender possibily by the end of 2018 or early the following year.

After all the delays Local representative in Killaloe-Ballina FF’s Tony O’Brien told Tipp FM News that he’s delighted the project is moving forward

The €45 to €50 million project will be carried out in 3 phases – the Shannon Bridge Crossing, The Killaloe Bypass and upgrade works linking Birdhill to Ballina.

Some councillors expressed concern over this amid fears it could stall mid phase and make a bad traffic situation worse.

However Director of Services for Roads with Tipp County Council Marcus O’ Connor moved to allay concerns insisting its full steam ahead
