Settlement reached in alleged Tipperary farm assault case

A High Court case between a Department of Agriculture vet and a County Tipperary farmer has been settled.

Vet Eamon Quirke took the case against John Hanrahan of Ballycurkeen, Carrick on Suir in connection with an incident on the farm in May of 2007.

Mr. Quirke arrived with colleagues to remove animal carcasses from a trailer on the property.

The court heard allegations that John Hanrahan had driven a loader into a gate and catapulted Eamon Quirke into the air.

After three days of evidence special damages of €41,000 were agreed while a confidential sum was also agreed outside the court.

64 year old John Hanrahan had previously been cleared in criminal proceedings of assaulting the vet causing him harm.
