Senior gardai urge road caution after fatal crashes in Tipperary and Limerick

Nenagh gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash on the M7 near Roscrea in which a young teenager died.

The 18 year UCD student, named locally as Barry Nash from Scarriff in East Clare was returning to college when the collision happened near Junction 22 at around 9 o'clock last night.

Three other teenagers in the car were treated in hospital but released a short time later.

A section of the M7 Northbound from Junction 23 Moneygall to Junction 21 Borris in Ossory which was closed overnight reopened to traffic shortly before lunchtime.

The young victim is from a well known family in the East Clare area and his brother Diarmuid Nash is a Handball World Champion who recently competed in Houston, in the US.

Meanwhile

Gardai at Rathkeele in Co. Limerick are investigating a serious road collision this morning. 

The 2 car crash happened at Reens Pike at 6:50am. 

A man in his 40's died while the driver of the other car was taken to hospital.

In a tweet this afternoon Garda Commissioner John Twomey urges all road users to exercise caution today, widespread heavy showers & strong winds making poor travel conditions.
