Safety concerns in Tipperary housing estates highlighted.

There are calls for traffic calming measures to be made part of any planning application for housing estates in County Tipperary.

The issue has been highlighted by Independent Councillor Tom Wood at this month's meeting of the Cashel – Tipperary Municipal District.

The matter will now go forward to the March meeting of Tipperary County Council.

Councillor Wood says signs calling on drivers to reduce speed in housing estates simply don't work.

The Cashel based Councillor says speed-ramps are needed to make estates safer for young children – however funding is a major issue in the retrospective fitting of such safety features.

Council officials put the cost at between €2,500 to €3,000 per ramp.
