The new Dáil prayer rules come into effect today with two TDs possibly facing punishment if they don’t obey them.

The rules make it mandatory for TDs to stand during the prayer at the start of Dáil business.

Dublin TDs Brid Smith and Ruth Coppinger say they won’t do that.

They could face punishment including losing a day’s pay if they don’t stand to prayer when the Dáil sits at 2pm.
