Transport Minister rules out extra funding for Ardfinnan bridge

No additional funding will be made available for works on the bridge in Ardfinnan.

Many locals are opposed to the current plan to have permanent traffic lights on the centuries old crossing together with a widened pedestrian footpath.

Following considerable lobbying by local representatives a request was sent to Transport Minister Shane Ross and his department to provide the money for other alternatives.

Director of Services for Roads with Tipperary County Council Marcus O’Connor says this is not a runner as far as the Minister is concerned.

Some locals have complained that the local authority didn’t engage enough with them on the plans.

Marcus O’Connor feels this is not the case.
