A 22 year old man has been killed on the roads in County Laois this morning.

The single car crash happened at Kilmullen in Portarlington at around 3.50am, when the driver hit a wall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

Meanwhile, the driver escaped injury when an ambulance overturned on the mortorway in Tipperary last night.

Local Gardai have confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

Several units of the local fire service attended the scene when the Order of Malta Ambulance overturned on the M-8 near Cashel yesterday evening.

And, Speed limits should not be seen as a target- is the warning from Tipperary Gardai this Bank Holiday weekend.

A major operation targeting drink driving and speeding is in place across Tipperary.

Two people lost their lives on the Premier County’s roads over the last week bringing to 6 the number of fatalities this year.

Inspector Eddie Golden says there’s nothing wrong with driving slightly below the speed limit.
