Reports Labour have given up on Tipperary’s Phil Prendergast retaining her seat in Europe.

 

A newspaper report today claims some Labour strategists have given up on the prospect of Clonmel's Phil Prendergast retaining her seat in the European Parliament.

In an analysis of the likely candidates for next years European elections the Irish Independent highlights the fact that the former Councillor and Senator was co-opted as an MEP following Alan Kelly's election to the Dail in North Tipperary.

The papers Political Editor Fionnan Sheahan points out that Phil Prendergast has never contested such a large scale election before.

Thurles native Mary Hanafin – who lost her Dail seat in the last General Election – has indicated she would be interested in running for Fianna Fail in Dublin in next May's European elections.
