Public urged to visit the lonely over Christmas

The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is calling on the public to call round to check on anyone close to them who may be experiencing loneliness.

It's also asking those who are living alone or are lonely to try and take steps to alleviate those feelings by accepting invitations, taking exercise or planning their day.

IACP spokesperson Shane Kelly says the festive celebrations can often exacerbate feelings of isolation for others.
