The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee is insisting it falls within its remit to question a Garda whistleblower on the operation of the penalty points system.
The P-A-C has decided to hear evidence from Sergeant Maurice McCabe – even though the Justice Minister has referred allegations of misuse of the system to the Garda Ombudsman for investigation.
Sergeant McCabe will appear – in private session – before the P-A-C at 2pm tomorrow.
The Committee Chairman John McGuinness says the decision to have him appear was made following legal advice.
