Protests in London in support of Grenfell Tower victims

There have been angry protests in London as people demand support for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in West London.

Police have confirmed 30 people are known to have died in the blaze, but it’s feared that could rise further with reports at least another 70 people are still missing.

The British Prime Minister has announced almost 6-million euro is being made available to pay for emergency supplies for everyone affected.

Theresa May’s also confirmed a public inquiry will take place and says getting answers is essential.

Meanwhile, union representing Irish Fire Fighters is seeking an urgent meeting with the Housing Minister to discuss multi-storey fire safety.

It comes as the Minister announces he’s requested local authorities to review fire safety right around the country.

Minister Eoghan Murphy says the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London is a reminder of the need for vigilance at all times and he’ll be contacting all Chief Fire Officers in the coming days and weeks.

SIPTU’s John King says their members want to raise a number of issues with the Minister, to ensure the future safety of the public and the fire teams that protect them.
