Prendergast Wants Calls And Texts on Planes

Ms Prendergast's demands follow updated guidance by the EU's Aviation Safety Agency [EASA] on the use of portable electronic devices on board planes including smartphones, tablets and e-readers.

The Agency says it's now safe to use these devices even when the plane is taking off and landing as long as they are on 'flight mode'.

However Ms Prendergast says passengers should also be allowed to use their phones to make and receive calls and text messages while flying.

However, the South MEP says they should be subject to some degree of privacy control.
