Possible penalties for well known Tipperary second level school.

One of Tipperary's best known schools could face penalties from the Department of Education.

According to a report in today's Irish Independent, Rockwell College near Cashel is involved in ongoing engagement with the Department over its charges.

The school, which has over 500 boarding and day pupils, is in the free education scheme.

This means it is not allowed to charge tuition fees or to disguise them under another name.

However there are concerns that the range of charges for day pupils and the fees paid by boarders at Rockwell may be above the approved limits.

If a resolution is not found then Rockwell College could face penalties – where a school is in breach of requirements then the Education Minister could ultimately withdraw state funding.
