The Tipperary constituency will be a focus for Fine Gael in the next election according to one of the leadership contenders.

Party members in the Premier County will cast their vote this evening to select a new leader and ultimately the next Taoiseach.

Ballots have been taking place at a number of locations across the country this week with the Horse & Jockey hotel the venue this evening.

Around 1,000 Fine Gael members will be eligible to vote in Tipperary.

The party currently has no TD in the Tipperary constituency.

Speaking on Tipp TD leadership candidate Leo Varadkar said Tipp is a priority for them but refused to be drawn on whether former Junior Minister Tom Hayes would be on the ballot sheet in the next General Election.
