Overcrowding at South Tipp General increases 26 fold

Overcrowding at hospitals serving Tipperary has increased 26 fold in some cases in the last decade.

Latest figures from the INMO show there were 835 patients treated on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick – this compares with just 32 in the same month in 2007. Today there are 44 people without a bed at UHL.

At South Tipp General Hospital the situation was six times worse.

489 patients were without a bed last month – In August 2007 there were 32 in a similar situation.

New figures from nurses show the numbers of patients on trolleys has reached record levels at hospitals across the Country.

The latest trolleywatch report for August shows over 7,700 admitted patients were on the temporary beds in August up 27 per cent on 2016

In the first eight months of this year 65,455 people were admitted for care, on trolleys according to the INMO.

The figures are being released ahead of a meeting of the national Emergency Department Implementation group this afternoon.
