Number of dead in London Tower fire rises to 30

The number of people known to have died in the Grenfell Tower fire in London has risen – as emergency crews had anticipated.

30 people are now confirmed to have lost their lives, but that figure is expected to rise further as firefighters search the 24-storey building.

Questions are now being asked about the exterior cladding on the building – with reports it may have accelerated the blaze.

The Times is reporting that the US banned this type of cladding amid safety concerns.

Anna Minton from the University of East London thinks the tragedy was completely avoidable.
