North Tipperary Councillors raise concerns over closure of rural Garda stations.

A letter will be sent to both the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner from Councillors in North Tipp, who are concerned about the closure of rural Garda stations in the region.

The matter was debated at length at this weeks meeting of the Local Authority.

Councillor Eddie Moran raised the issue this week, saying the people in isolated rural areas are now living in fear with the closure of rural Garda stations.

Councillor Mattie Ryan said the people in Rearcross are suffering from their closure, with Councillor Jim Casey saying that people don't have the support and security of a nearby Garda station.

Councillor Jim Ryan asked that the letter should outline the deep unhappiness felt by the people of North Tipp at the station closures, while Councillor John Kennedy asked that the Joint Policing Committee outline their plans for policing in the region.

Mayor Michael O'Meara also supported earlier calls from Pauline Coonan, to lift the restrictions on Gardai on where they live, in order to encourage them to take residence in areas with no station.
