Plans for a solar farm near Nenagh have been unveiled.

The application before Tipperary County Council's planning department is for a solar farm on a site 10 kilometres south west of Nenagh.

John Fogarty is proposing to develop a solar PV panel array consisting of around 19,000 solar panels covering 31,500 square metres at Lisbrien.

It would produce almost 5 megawatts of renewable electricity once the site becomes fully operational – the developer plans to export this to the national grid via an existing sub-station at Tyone.

It's estimated this would be enough to supply 1,500 households

The plans for the 10 hectare site also include two electricity control cabins, 5 inverter units and underground cable ducts along with boundary security fencing and CCTV .

The project would employ up to ten people during the construction phase.

A decision is due from the planning authority by the end of January.
