Farmers stage sit-in at Dept of Agriculture in Nenagh

They say it's because officials are refusing to meet with them.

A demonstration took place in Nenagh this morning to highlight farm inspections and penalties.

Farmers there feel they are being penalised more than their counterparts across the country.

The problem has been going on for a number of years according to the IFA with figures up to 2012 showing that North Tipp farmers were getting more penalties than in any other county.

North Tipp chairman Tim Cullinane says they were told at a meeting with Department officials last September that the situation had improved since then.
