Almost 20% of crimes not logged on Garda system

A review carried out by the Central Statistics Office into the quality of garda crime data has also found that some crimes were classified incorrectly, while others not deemed to be crimes, should have been.

A report by the Garda Inspectorate last November raised serious concerns about the recording of crimes on the PULSE system, prompting the CSO to carry out this review.

It has found 18 per cent of crimes reported to Gardai in 2011 do not appear to have been recorded on PULSE.

Three percent of crimes recorded that year were put in the wrong crime category and 7 percent of incidents classified as Attention and Complaints – which is a non-crime category.
