New anti grinding mouthguard unveiled

Up to half a million Irish people suffer from the problem – which can lead to severe facial pain and headaches, and can also damage dental restorations like crowns and veneers.

A team of researchers from the Dublin Dental Hospital and the Science Foundation at Trinity College Dublin have come up with SmartSplint – a device that can record and monitor teeth grinding and feed the information back to a person's phone.

It's hoped SmartSplint will be launched in Ireland later this year and will be available in dental practices internationally in 2016.
