Funding of €235,000 was announced back in February to upgrade Clonbeg Bridge in Aherlow.
However, it’s emerged a Natura Impact Statement is required before work can commence on the timber structure which is built on steel.
An application to An Bord Pleanala is also needed.
Deputy Mattie McGrath says this means that the project will now be delayed until at least 2020.
