Minister says pay deals must be within LRA

The public expenditure minister says any changes in public sector pay will have to be within the boundaries of the Lansdowne Road pay agreement.

Pascal Donohoe's comments come after the SIPTU President called for the pay deal to be re-negotiated.

The Minister says he will do nothing that will cause a 'domino effect' with pay demands.

This morning Jack O'Connor said the economic situation has changed since the pay agreement was struck.

And the SIPTU President believes a re-negotiation should happen.

The government faces a winter of discontent – a Garda strike looms, the bus dispute is suspended pending a fresh ballot, teachers have threatened to close schools, and other workers are lining up with wage demands.

But the Public Expenditure Minister's adamant how they'll be dealt with.
