Workers who are set to lose their jobs in Littleton’s Bord na Mona Plant can utilise their skills elsewhere, according to an Irish MEP.

Employees at the factory were last month informed of its planned closure next year with the loss of 69 permanent jobs – 56 peat harvesting jobs in the area will also be impacted.

However, Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune says up-skilling and retraining within the industry should be supported by the local enterprise office.

Speaking to Tipp FM news, she also says that it’s important for the Government to be proactive and to understand that decisions and commitments in Brussels will result in changes at home.
