Massive fire outbreak destroys Tipperary business

A Tipperary business has been completely destroyed by a huge fire.

The blaze at TIPPO on the outskirts of Nenagh broke out yesterday evening.

11 units of the Tipperary fire and rescue services from across North Tipperary have worked for over 18 hours to bring this blaze under control.

The alarm was raised at 10 to 7 yesterday evening when the owners of Tippo, Paddy and Mary Martin, who live next door to the factory, called emergency services.

Crews from Nenagh were joined by Cloughjordan, Borrisokane, Roscrea and Thurles who fought through the night to bring the fire under control.

Tipperary's Chief Fire Officer Dave Carroll says the fire spread very quickly.

The fire is now under control, fire engines are still at the scene in order to make sure it's safe, the R498 remains closed with drivers from Nenagh urged to go via Toomevara or up the M7 to Templemore.

TIPPO has been in business in Nenagh for several years and employs over 60 people.

Local Indepedent Councillor Hughie McGrath says the fire is a massive blow to the Martin family and the entire town of Nenagh.

While the immediate danger has now passed, Fire Chief Dave Carroll says it's not going to be easy to discover the cause of the blaze.
