The incident happened in Coolderry yesterday evening.
The man who was in his early 40's was painting part of a shed at the family home when he fell through the roof he was standing on and suffered serious injury.
His wife raised the alarm but despite best efforts of the emergency services – he was later pronounced dead.
The father of three who was well known and respected in the area worked as a farmer at a North Tipp meat factory and was also heavily involved in Offaly hurling circles.
