The community in Roscrea has been left deeply shocked and appalled by an aggravated burglary in which an elderly man was injured.
According to gardaí 2 men entered their home after 11 last night and demanded money. They gained entry through a side window of the couple’s home on the Old Dublin Road.
The husband and wife were then assaulted by the raiders – the elderly man who is in his 90’s suffered head injuries and is being treated at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise. His wife who is in her 80’s escaped injury but is said to be deep traumatised.
The raiders then escaped with a sum of money a short time later and gardaí were alerted at 11.40.
