Lowry defends Hogan meeting

North Tipperary T.D Michael Lowry says there was nothing untoward in his meeting with Environment Minister Phil Hogan

The Minister has been criticised for granting the meeting with Deputy Lowry just days after the report in to the Moriarty Tribunal.

It lasted over an hour compared to a recent meeting with Google officials which lasted less than 30 minutes.

A statement from Phil Hogan's department says that the Minister saw no reason not to proceed with the meeting which was held in accordance with the Cabinet Handbook and an official was present, with no additional matters being discussed.

The statement adds that Minister Hogan's response to the findings of the Moriarty tribunal are clear and unequivocal and are a matter of Dáil record.

For his part Michael Lowry said the meeting was requested by him on behalf of Tipperary based company 'Filmco', and the Department to discuss the issue of job protection and farm plastic regulations.
