Lowry answers back on McGrath ‘solo run’ claims

Tipperary TD Michael Lowry has accused his constituency colleague Mattie McGrath of being bitter that he didn't get to announce plans for extra staff and a patient hotel for South Tipp General.

The Thurles TD confirmed last week that the HSE is to start recruiting over 20 new staff while proposals for a 40 bed patient hotel on the site have been given the green light.

Deputy McGrath has accused Michael Lowry of doing a solo run on the project – however the Thurles TD has in turn questioned what Mattie McGrath has done for South Tipp General in the last ten years.

Meanwhile Michael Lowry says he doesn't have a “sweetheart” deal with the Government – because he didn't seek one.

It follows comments by Health Minister Simon Harris that no specific deal had been done with the Tipperary Independent TD.

Last week Deputy Lowry announced on Tipp FM that approval had been given to recruit over 20 new staff at South Tipp General Hospital while proposals for a 40 bed patient hotel had also been given the green light for the Clonmel site.

Today Michael Lowry said his decision to support a Fine Gael led Government should naturally pay dividends for Tipperary.
