Local residents patrol estate in fight back against crime.

Residents of a mid Tipp housing estate have decided to do their bit to tackle an increase in burglaries in their area.

Gardai in Thurles have been warning of a spate of break-ins around the town in recent weeks.

The latest incidents on Friday night have led residents of Moyne Road in Thurles to set up a nightly patrol of the area.

Tommy Barrett – who is Chairman of the local residents committee – says there are a number of residents who head out on patrol around 8 or 9 o’clock each evening which is giving a sense of security to the community.

He says however they have to act with caution as they cannot and should not take the law into their own hands but instead raise any concerns with the Gardai.
