A major problem has developed at the town's water treatment plant at Lingaun on the eastern side of the town near the new Comeragh College.
It's understood the problem first arose late yesterday afternoon – engineers from Tipperary County Council are currently on site.
It's hoped work on repairing the problem will be completed in the coming hours.
