People are disgusted at recent comments made by the Taoiseach and other government ministers about homelessness, according to one of the speakers at tonight’s public meeting in Tipperary on the issue.

Dr Rory Hearne, who will speak at the Housing and Homelessness event in the Clonmel Park Hotel, says Government Ministers and the head of the Housing Agency, have also made comments in recent months downplaying the crisis.

3,500 families are on the housing waiting list in the Premier County – with 120,000 across the country – however the Taoiseach has said by international standards Ireland has a low level of homelessness.

Dr Hearne, researcher at Maynooth, says it was a political move to downplay the crisis.
