Tipperary County Council has taken 18 housing estates in charge in the last year.

The local authority currently has another 81 developments on their books.

Until an estate is taken in charge the County Council cannot repair roads or deal with lighting problems as they would effectively be trespassing.

The local authority is now urging homeowners in estates across the county to get in touch if their housing estate hasn’t been taken in charge by the local authority.

Senior Planner Brian Beck says the legal process means tenants can’t apply to have their estates taken in charge.
