Calls to allow tenants become homeowners

It’s hoped a “loop hole” which prevents long standing Tipperary tenants buying out their council house can be reversed soon.

Under current legislation all local authority property reverts back to the council once the property is vacated or the residents have passed on.

However North Tipp Councillor Michael O’Meara feels this is very unfair on tenants who have spent 25 or 30 years in the one home with a good record of rent payments and maintenance of the property.
