University Hospital Limerick, which serves North Tipp, is once again the most overcrowded hospital in the country this afternoon.

There are 54 patients being cared for on trolleys in the Emergency Department and in overflow areas of wards at the Dooradoyle facility.

That’s up from 44 yesterday – when it was also the busiest hospital in the country.

Figures in South Tipp General in Clonmel have dropped, however, with 7 people in need of a bed – down from 15 yesterday.

Nationally, there are 395 patients being cared for on trolleys today, an increase of 32% on the same day last year when there were 300 patients on trolleys.
