Tipperary Gardai have opened up an investigation following the discovery of an infant with severe head injuries near Thurles.
The baby was found at a house in Horse and Jockey on Thursday and rushed to hospital.
Upon assessment of the injuries, the child was transferred to a hospital in Dublin and Gardai then opened their inquiry.
The scene has been sealed off and a forensic examination is underway.
