Two French officials say the gunman in the Champs-Elysees shooting was detained in February for threatening police – and then freed.
One officer died, two were injured and a tourist was also hurt last night.
The suspect was then killed – Islamic State says he was one of its ‘fighters’.
Investigators are trying to work out if he was acting alone.
