Fire destroys Castle Court Hotel

The alarm was raised at 11.30 last night when the blaze broke out at the abandoned Castle Court Hotel on Church Street.

Two units of the fire brigade from Cahir were first on the scene last night…they were later followed by two more fire crews from Cashel.

The fire broke out around 11.30 in the abandoned hotel in the town centre.

Several nearby houses were evacuated by emergency services as a precaution due to the scale of the fire which tore through the roof of the Castle Court Hotel on Church Street.

It's understood that the fire has completely gutted the building; the hotel was not in use and had fallen into some disrepair.

Gardaí in Cahir say there is a strong smell around the town this morning.

The scene will be preserved for a technical examination later today to try and discover the cause of the blaze.
