Fears for Ranbaxy workers in Cashel

Staff at the former Ranbaxy plant in Cashel were called to a meeting with management yesterday.

Sun Pharma completed a merger with Ranbaxy in March of this year.

The deal included Ranbaxy's Irish plant in Cashel.

Workers at the Cork Road site in the town were called to a meeting yesterday where the company outlined its future plans for the facility.

A spokesperson for Sun Pharma has told Tipp FM that the merger provided an opportunity to optimize the overall manufacturing network in terms of capacity, costs and efficiencies.

As a result of this decisions are currently being made to either close or divest some of the groups manufacturing facilities.

According to Frederick Castro of Sun Pharma their Irish facility in Cashel has been identified for divestment or sale.

It remains to be seen if there is a positive outcome to the sale – in July the former Johnson and Johnson plant adjacent to Ranbaxy in Cashel was purchased by U.S generic drug manufacturer Amneal.
