Fears for a number of jobs at the Bulmers plant in Clonmel.

Local TD Mattie McGrath claims 25 full time staff are to be laid off in the New Year.

He has accused the C&C Group of reneging on promises made in relation to its manufacturing plant in Clonmel.

The news of possible job losses at the cider plant on the outskirts of Clonmel is described as devastating for all concerned by Deputy McGrath.

He has hit out at senior board members of the C&C Group for going back on commitments given to him about the security of its workers jobs in Clonmel.

According to Deputy McGrath 25 full time staff at the plant – which makes Bulmers and Magners cider – are to be let go in the New Year.

Deputy McGrath says the move confirms what he has been trying to highlight for at least 6 months now, that there was a concerted effort to reduce the workforce in Clonmel despite repeated assurances that this was not the case.

He says the manner in which the workers were told is absolutely appalling, claiming there was no notice given and no voluntary options provided.

Mattie McGrath says there is now huge concern around the future viability of the entire operation in Clonmel.
