Tipp companies fined for breach of EPA rules

Fines totalling nearly €50,000 were imposed on Tipperary companies last year for breaches of environmental guidelines.

The Environment Protection Agency completed 1,500 inspections last year – the vast majority of which were unannounced.

This resulted in fines of over €374,000 in 2017.

Three Tipperary companies were among the 22 to be prosecuted.

Rosderra Irish Meats of Carrig, Roscrea were fined for a number of breaches including failing to ensure emissions to the sewer did not exceed permitted limits.

They had to pay over €18,500 between fines and charges.

Arrabawn Co-Operative Society in Nenagh had to pay almost €16,000 last September after falling foul of the rules on a number of occasions in recent years.

Also penalised were Bord na Mona Fuels – their operation in Littleton was found to have breached EPA guidelines on a number of occasions in 2016. This came before Thurles District Court in June of last year where fines and charges amounting to nearly €12,000 were imposed.
